What is a 3-piece welded can line?+
A 3-piece welded can is built from a rolled and welded body plus a separately made top and bottom end. The line coats and prints flat sheets, cuts them into blanks, welds each blank into a cylinder, coats and cures the side seam, then flanges, beads and seams the ends on.
Where do defects most often start on a 3PC line?+
Upstream, on the flat sheet and the blank. Double sheets, missing lacquer, an unlacquered plain margin and inverted blanks all become welder faults or scrap cans further down the line. That is why the IS231, IS651, IS631 and IS610 sit before the welder.
Which gauge do the enamel-rating accessories work with?+
The stands, adapters and probes here are built around the EnamelPro™ IS810 enamel rating gauge — the IS9015 and IS9015XXL can stands, the IS9020TMR end adapter, the IS9571 aerosol probe and the IS9024 electrolyte management system. Coating thickness is measured separately with the CoatPro™ IS860.
Do these detectors run in line?+
Yes. The sheet, blank and side-seam detectors are built to run in line and signal the line automatically, rather than relying on an operator to sample. The enamel rating and coating thickness gauges are at-line or laboratory instruments used on sampled cans.
