ENAMEL RATING GAUGE

IS810 ENAMELPRO™

The IS810 EnamelPro™  Enamel Rating Gauge is Innosen’s next generation semi-automatic system – higher resolution, smarter pre-test checks, and on-board defect localization.

The widest enamel rating capability in the market — ends, caps, cans, tubes, capsules, foils and flat sheets.

The IS810 EnamelPro™ is Innosen’s semi-automatic enamel rating gauge  for metal packaging QA. It measures the integrity of the lacquer film inside cans, ends, tubes, capsules, foils and flat sheets using interchangeable fixtures. Annual calibration is performed on site, and every reading logs in real time to IS1100 Innolytix® data management.

A microscopic pore in a lacquer film doesn’t look like much — until it surfaces as a corrosion claim, a leaker, or a tainted product weeks down the line. The cost of catching it late is always higher than the cost of catching it now.

The IS810 EnamelPro™ addresses this directly: higher-resolution measurement, automatic pre-test contact and electrolyte checks, and reverse-polarity localization that shows an operator exactly where the coating failed. Readings stream live into IS1100 Innolytix®, so a defect found on the floor is already in the quality record.

This isn’t an incremental upgrade — it’s the new standard.

How it works

The gauge measures the electrical integrity of the lacquer film inside a metal container. The container is held in the appropriate fixture, an electrolyte is brought into contact with the coated surface, and a test voltage of between 3 and 30 V is applied. An intact coating insulates almost completely, so only a very small current flows. Pores, cracks, scratches and thin spots expose bare metal and allow more current through, and the gauge reports that current as the enamel rating. Reversing the polarity then makes gas bubble up at the exposed metal itself, turning a number into a located defect.

What is the IS810 EnamelPro™ enamel rating gauge?

The IS810 EnamelPro™ is Innosen’s semi-automatic enamel rating gauge for metal packaging QA. It measures the integrity of the lacquer film inside cans, ends, tubes, capsules, foils and flat sheets, using a range of interchangeable fixtures.

How accurate is the IS810 EnamelPro™?

The IS810 EnamelPro™ measures with linearity better than 1%, across an adjustable 3–30 V test range and a current range up to a full 1 A. Annual calibration is carried out on site, so that accuracy is maintained without the gauge ever leaving your facility.

Innosen’s complete enamel rating line

No one covers more of the canmaking world. Innosen offers the widest enamel rating capability on the market, and it is at its widest on the hardest parts to rate — ends and caps. Between the fixtures below, the IS810 EnamelPro™ rates ends, caps, cones and domes, two-piece, three-piece and aerosol cans, collapsible tubes, aluminium capsules, drums and pails, thin and thick foil, and the rivet area of easy-open ends. If it is made in canmaking, it can be enamel rated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an enamel rating gauge actually measure?
An enamel rater checks the integrity of the lacquer or enamel film applied to the inside of a metal container. An electrolyte is brought into contact with the coated surface, a test voltage is applied, and the gauge measures the current that flows. An intact coating insulates almost completely, so very little current passes. Pores, cracks, scratches and thin spots expose bare metal and allow current through, so the reading tells you how sound the coating is long before the container reaches a filling line.
How does the IS810 EnamelPro show where a coating has failed?
Through reverse polarity. A conventional reading tells you that current is escaping somewhere, but not where. The IS810 EnamelPro lets you reverse the polarity of the applied voltage, and gas bubbles then form at the precise point where bare metal is exposed. The operator can see the fault bubbling in the container, so it can be traced back to a specific position in the coating or spray process instead of being narrowed down by trial and error. That turns a pass or fail number into a root cause.
Which containers and substrates can the IS810 EnamelPro test?
The gauge covers the breadth of the enamel rating range through interchangeable fixtures. Two-piece, three-piece and aerosol cans use the IS9015 can stand, aluminium collapsible tubes the IS9017 tube stand, and ends, caps, cones, domes and flat sheets the end adapter. Aluminium capsules, drums and pails, thin and thick aluminium foil, and the rivet area of easy-open ends are each handled by their own dedicated fixture.
Why does an adjustable test voltage matter?
Different coating systems, film weights and substrates give their cleanest, most repeatable result at different test voltages. The IS810 EnamelPro is adjustable across 3 to 30 V with a current range up to a full 1 A, so the test can be matched to the product rather than the product being forced to fit a handful of preset steps. In practice that means one gauge covers a mixed portfolio without compromising the sensitivity of any single test.
Does the IS810 EnamelPro have to be shipped away for calibration?
No. Annual calibration is carried out on site, at your own facility. There is no return shipment, no insured transit and no window where the gauge is off the floor and the line is running without it. The gauge stays where it is needed and stays certified.
How do readings get off the gauge and into a quality report?
The IS810 EnamelPro holds up to 100,000 readings on board, which is enough to keep a full traceable history rather than only the current shift. Readings stream in real time into IS1100 Innolytix® for tracking, analysis and reporting, and the gauge offers USB-C, RS485 and Ethernet so it fits alongside existing factory systems. Password protection and anti-tamper features keep the record trustworthy when an audit asks for it.
Which standards does the IS810 EnamelPro comply with?
The gauge meets EN 15384-1 and EN 15384-2, the European standards covering enamel rating of flexible aluminium tubes. For container types outside that scope, testing follows the coating specification agreed with your customer, and the adjustable voltage and current ranges give room to work to those requirements.
