Foil Adapter for Enamel Rater
IS9030
For checking the coating porosity on aluminum foil sheets (thick and thin)
The IS9030 is Innosen’s foil adapter for enamel rater testing. It measures the coating porosity of aluminum foil sheets — thin gauge and thick gauge alike — so a pore, crack or scratch in the lacquer is found on the laboratory bench rather than as a corrosion claim months later.
Bad contacts are the single biggest cause of unreliable readings on foil adapters. Therefore, the IS9030 verifies its electrical contacts before every test, so a poor contact is reported to the operator instead of being recorded as a misleading result. Because the unit is semi-automatic, the operator only has to load the foil sheet and invert the pot — there is nothing to time and nothing to hold by hand.
Used with a dedicated IS810 EnamelPro™, the voltage drop in the cables is compensated for automatically, so 6.3 volts is always delivered at the sheet irrespective of the current drawn. As a result, readings stay repeatable between operators, between shifts and between plants.
Everything that meets the electrolyte is built to survive it: engineering plastic, stainless steel and titanium throughout, so the unit will not corrode in a harsh enamel rating environment. In addition, an integrated calibration verification switch is standard rather than an accessory, so the linearity of the whole measuring chain can be proven in seconds.
Add the IS9021AV Vacuum Generator for a clean, regulated air supply with filter and water separator, or the IS9023 Automatic Vacuum Control Unit to take the repetitive hand movement out of a long batch. Finally, every reading streams into IS1100 Innolytix®, so a defect found at the bench is already in the quality record.
We did not follow the standard. We set it.
The probe came first. Innosen has been building enamel rating and coating thickness probes for metal packaging for decades — the standard the industry now calls by name was our doing. Probes we designed reach the market under other brand names.
So when you buy the Foil Adapter for Enamel Rater IS9030, you are buying the current generation from the people who designed it, hold the drawings, machine the parts and stock the spare parts. Engineering answers, calibration guidance, spare probes and lead times come from the source rather than from a label.
Features of the foil adapter for enamel rater testing
| Features |
|---|
| Reliable Semi-Automatic Operation – the operator loads the aluminum foil sheet and inverts the pot; the instrument does the rest, so results do not depend on how carefully a cycle was timed by hand. |
| Self-Checking Electrical Contacts – contacts are verified before every test, so a bad contact is reported instead of being recorded as a low or erratic reading. |
| Automatic Voltage Compensation – with a dedicated IS810 EnamelPro™ the voltage drop in the cables is compensated for, so 6.3 volts reaches the sheet irrespective of the current. Better accuracy and better repeatability. |
| Covers a Range of Foil Thicknesses – one adapter handles thin gauge and thick gauge aluminum foil sheets, so the laboratory does not need a separate fixture per material. |
| Durable, Corrosion-Proof Construction – engineering plastic, stainless steel and titanium throughout, so the unit will not corrode in a harsh enamel rating environment. |
| Integrated Calibration Verification Switch – built in as standard, so an operator can prove that the measuring chain is working correctly in seconds, at the bench. |
| Optional Automatic Vacuum Control – add the IS9023 and the vacuum is sequenced for you, which removes the repetitive hand movement a manual valve demands during a long batch. |
| Live Logging to Innolytix® – every reading can stream into IS1100 Innolytix®, so foil results sit in the same quality record as cans, ends and tubes. |
Benefits of the IS9030 foil adapter
| Benefits |
|---|
| Catch coating porosity on aluminum foil before the material is converted, not after a customer reports corrosion. |
| Prevent product contamination caused by foil corrosion or coating failure. |
| Fewer customer complaints and fewer rejected batches, because a weak lacquer film is identified at the source. |
| Repeatable numbers between operators and shifts, because voltage compensation and contact checking remove the two largest sources of scatter. |
| Faster laboratory throughput – a semi-automatic cycle takes less operator attention than a manual pot. |
| A defensible quality record: results are logged, traceable and auditable in IS1100 Innolytix®. |
| Long service life and low running cost, because the wetted parts are titanium and stainless steel rather than consumable metalwork. |
Supported foil formats, handling and integration
| Foil formats, handling and integration |
|---|
| Aluminum foil sheets, thin and thick – the adapter is designed around flat foil sheet rather than a formed can, so the sample does not have to be cut down to fit a can stand. |
| Load and invert – the sheet is laid on the pot and the pot is inverted. The electrolyte wets a defined area of the sheet, so the tested area is the same from sample to sample. |
| Contact check first, measurement second – the unit confirms its contacts before it applies test voltage, which is why readings on foil stop drifting between samples. |
| Titanium probes in the electrolyte – the only parts permanently wetted are titanium, so contact resistance stays stable instead of climbing as metalwork corrodes. |
| Vacuum on demand – the IS9021AV supplies clean, regulated air with a filter and water separator; the IS9023 sequences the vacuum automatically for repeat testing. |
| One gauge for the whole line – the same IS810 EnamelPro™ drives the IS9030 and the rest of the enamel rating range, so foil, cans, ends, tubes and capsules share one electronics unit and one calibration routine. |
| Straight into the quality system – results are captured by IS1100 Innolytix® with operator, sample and timestamp, so foil data is reportable without transcription. |
Compatible Systems
| System | Role |
|---|---|
| IS810 EnamelPro™ | The semi-automatic enamel rating gauge that drives the IS9030. Supplies the regulated 6.3 V test voltage, compensates for cable drop and reads the current. |
| IS9021AV Vacuum Generator | Vacuum generator with air pressure regulator, filter and water separator, so electrolyte cannot reach the air supply. |
| IS9023 Automatic Vacuum Control Unit | Adds automatic vacuum sequencing, which speeds up repeat testing and avoids the repetitive strain of a manual valve. |
| IS1100 Innolytix® | QA software. Logs every reading with sample, operator and timestamp, and reports trends across the enamel rating line. |
| IS228B Enamel Rater Switchbox | Lets a second fixture share the same electronics unit, selected with a knob instead of unplugging cables. |
| IS9024 Electrolyte Management System | Prepares, stores and dispenses the test solution so electrolyte handling is consistent and clean. |
Spare parts for the IS9030
| Spare Part | Description |
|---|---|
| Titanium probe set | The contacts that sit in the electrolyte. Replaceable at the bench without returning the adapter. |
| Sealing gasket / O-ring set | Seals the pot against the foil sheet. Replace when the wetted area stops being clean-edged or the pot no longer holds vacuum. |
| Pot assembly | The electrolyte vessel that is inverted onto the sheet. Washable and replaceable. |
| Contact check harness | The wiring that carries the pre-test contact verification signal. |
| Test solution (electrolyte) | Consumable. Ask for the correct formulation and volume for your foil gauge and coating. |
